**Introduction**

To control an asynchronous motor with an ACOPOS servo drive the following steps has to be done.

1. Get the motor nameplate, this is the minimum of information which you need to get started.

2. Try to get all relevant motor information from the motor supplier

3. When you don’t get the information from the motor supplier

**Help pages**

For more information see the following help pages.

- [Induction motor](https://help.br-automation.com/#/en/6/ncsoftware/acp10_drivefunctions/motor/asynchronmotor/asynchronmotor_.html)
- Link to Excel document ‘asynctypeplate.xls’ : [Parameter estimation from the rating plate data](https://help.br-automation.com/#/en/6/ncsoftware/acp10_drivefunctions/motor/asynchronmotor/parameterabschatzung_aus_den_leistungsschilddaten.html)
- Link to Excel document ‘asyncconnection.xls‘ : [Parameter conversion for motor connections](https://help.br-automation.com/#/en/6/ncsoftware/acp10_drivefunctions/motor/asynchronmotor/parameterumrechnung_fur_motorschaltungen.html)
- [Motor parameter identification](https://help.br-automation.com/#/en/6/motion/commissioning/motor_identification/motor_identification.html)

**Step-by-step guide**

Make sure the motor is connected in star.

1. Save the ‘asynctypeplate.xls’ to your computer

2. Fill in the motor name plate values

3. Add an induction motor to the physical view

4. Take over the values from the excel sheet

5. Configure the controller mode to ncUF (for open loop)

6. Transfer application

7. Perform an identification

8. When quality is GOOD, Save parameters

9. Upload saved parameters, online=\>Compare Automation Components

10. Recompile the motor parameters

The result of the above steps is that you have the correct motor parameters for using the motor connected in star.

For running a motor in delta, do also the following steps

1. Save the ‘asyncconnection.xls’ to your computer

2. Fill in the motor data which you have identified

3. Make sure you have configured 1 motor and delta connection

4. Take the excel results over in your AS project

Hello,
In my experience, when working with new motors, the best approach is to ask the induction motor manufacturer for extended nameplate data, which contains the required parameters. Usually, no modifications or calculations are needed—only controllers tuning.

Hello Michal,

Thanks for your response. If it is possible to get the relevant information from the manufacturer then that is for sure the best approach. If you are not able to get the information from the manufacturer then you could follow this process.
