Hello guys,
I would like to ask you for clarification regarding the connection between my accelerometer and the X20CM4800X module.

The accelerometer cable I am currently using has only two wires:

- **Red wire** : connected to IEPE+ / signal
- **Blue wire** : connected to 0V
- Additionally, there is a **grey shielding wire** that I connected to close the circuit.

However, according to the X20CM4800X datasheet, the module expects a 3-wire connection: IEPE+, IEPE−, and shield.

The issue is that the module indicates a broken wire.
I would like to know if it is possible to connect my accelerometer to the X20CM4800X module, and if so, how should I proceed to do it properly?

Unfortunately, I have no knowledge of this type of measurement, but I’ll just try to understand the documentation.

- There is an [internal circuit diagram](https://help.br-automation.com/#/en/4/hardware%2Fx20cm4800x%2Feingangsschema.html) for the module

 ![image](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/brcommunity/original/2X/7/7dab505ca7a6aa6b5b51f1e32c0218aa13247438.png)

According to [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Electronics_Piezo-Electric) this kind of sensors need a power supply, which this module can provide (but can be switched off by application).

- does the sensor work with the provided Milliamps ? (Datasheet)

- then the [technical data](https://help.br-automation.com/#/en/4/hardware/x20cm4800x/technische_daten.html) describe how the open circuit detection works:

 ![image](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/brcommunity/original/2X/7/71eec83e4a67a0d8e2c7929220136c494c9389c4.png)

so one can check the voltage.

-then I would still have concerns about the pin naming ‘GND’ instead of ‘IEPE-’. ‘GND’ implies that there is a grounding to the housing (?) whereas IEPE+/- expect a floating (groundless) sensor input.

This is the electrical data of my accelerometer.

my module provide 5mA/24VDC like a supply power.
and the accelerometer had an excitation voltage between 18-28VDC, constant current excitation between 2 and 20mA.
the probleme is that the module write that there is a Broken Wire and i don’t know the reason.

Thank you for helping.

what voltage did you measure between A+ and A- input of the module by using a multimeter ?

I didn’t try to mesure it, but based on this circuit is 5 mA.

the problem is the module give me a broken wire True as you see in the photo.

this is the circuit, and i activated the channel and the IEPE supply but without ny result.

i mesured the voltatge between IEPE +/- and i found it equal 3.18 V and this is less than 8 v rocommanded by B&R and for the sensor it works between 8 and 12V. i don’t know why the module give me this voltatge and how i could resolve this problem.

I would guess your sensor requires more current than the maximum of 5.5 mA ☹. You could contact the manufacturer to be sure.
