Do I need a security key (dongle) to operate a 5PC720.1043-01?

I am checking a 5PC720.1043-01 device, which powers on correctly but shows a message saying that no operating system was found. After that, I created a program and loaded it onto a CompactFlash card, but now a message appears saying “security key not connected.”

Inside the BIOS, I already set the boot order to start from the CompactFlash, but it still keeps showing the same “security key” message.

Do I necessarily need to have the security key, or is there a way to operate without it?

Hi Isaac,

I assume this is a B&R runtime that you install. My guess is that the runtime does not detect the dongle. The dongle should be here.

It would be great if you send a screenshot from the error, as well as the Automation Studio and Runtime version you use.

the thing is, that it doesnt have the dongle, so my question is if I need necessarily the dongle?, also I dont know if the device
should´ve come with the dongle from factory? or can it be swapped for another one??

We need more information to answer all that

  • Is this a replacement PC or did it run before fine
  • What runtime version do you install
  • What Automation Studio version do you use
  • Please send a screenshot of the error message

Depending on the used Runtime version a dongle is necessary to unlock Automation Runtime.

This dongle does not come with the APC (unless you or someone else ordered it with dongle) as it is a “licence” to be allowed to operate the AR

it is a replacement PC
the runtime is J4.93
for this situation I´m using AS 4.7

AR4.93 does not work in AS4.7 and furthermore such a version does not exist for an APC720

Are you sure about this ?

Nevertheless as mentioned back in this days “AR106” as it was called (nowadays ARmbedded) did request a hardware licence aka a “dongle” (to be more precise a so called dallas key) with appropriate licence on it

This dongles are no longer available as they are discontinued on side of the manufacturer ages ago

Hi Isaac,

the old PPC should have a dongle. The error message that you see is because its missing in the new PPC. If you dont have access to the old PPC you should contact your local B&R office to see if they can get a replacement.
