PS: X20PS9600

I understand that the PS card is capable of RS232 communication. I plan to use the PS card to connect to a thermometer. I need to communicate via RS232 with two controllers. Can I use two PS cards for this communication?

Hi,

the X20PS9600 makes the PLC integrated RS232 interface available via the terminal block (or, to be more precise: the base module, for example X20BB52, has the RS interface integrated that is accessed by the PS terminal block).
But as “PS” stands for “Power Supply”, the main function of the PS9600 is to power the PLC, so a second one is not the right choice for a second RS232 interface, because the BB module only have one of them integrated.
But you can use for example the [X20CS1020](https://www.br-automation.com/en/products/io-systems/x20-system/x20-electronics-module-communication/x20cs1020/) to get a second serial interface into your systems configuration.

Best regards!

Hello Alexander Hefner,
Thank you for your reply.
I want to use the CS1020 module, but due to supply issues, I will have to wait a long time. Therefore, I will use two X20CP0482 units and a PS card to collect temperature data from a thermometer. Which library should I use to retrieve the thermometer values? Should I use the DRV library?

Hi,

In general, for a serial communication normally you have to use the [DV\_Frame](https://help.br-automation.com/#/en/4/libraries%2Fdvframe%2Fdvframe.html) libary.

In case that your device uses the Modbus RTU protocol, you can use the [DRV\_mbus](https://help.br-automation.com/#/en/4/libraries%2Fdrv_mbus%2Fdrv_mbus.html) library.

Best regards!
