Mapp Framework 6 released for Automation Studio 6 - voting started

mapp Framework 6 is now released and available as a CoLab project on the B&R Community. The well-known mapp Framework 4 has been migrated to Automation Studio 6 and is now fully usable in this environment.

What is included in mapp Framework 6?

mapp Framework 6 is based on the existing and proven mapp Framework 4:

  • The functionality is equivalent to the mapp Framework 4 you already know link.
  • The complete framework has been migrated to Automation Studio 6.5.
  • The migration uses mapp components and mapp View 6.5.
  • Documentation is moved from AS help to online and it is build automatically with each new commit and push

In other words, you can expect the same concepts and behavior as with mapp Framework 4, now running on AS 6, built on the current mapp technology stack.

No more limitation to older Automation Studio versions

Until now, using mapp Framework meant being limited to Automation Studio 4. With this release:

  • You can now use mapp Framework also with Automation Studio 6.
  • Existing projects based on mapp Framework 4 can be technically aligned with AS 6.5 and mapp View 6.5 (subject to project-specific adaptations).

This removes a major barrier for users who wanted to stay on the mapp Framework concept while moving to the AS6 platform.

mapp Framework 6 as a CoLab project on Community

mapp Framework 6 is released as a CoLab project on the B&R Community. This gives us a unique opportunity to measure real usage and make decisions based on data, not assumptions.

Please note that the developers working on mapp Framework are primarily focused on automation projects, so their time for framework development is limited. This is exactly why your votes and feedback are so important.

Future plans and expectations

  • Stabilization first
    • Focus on bug fixing and ensuring that mapp Framework 6 is stable on AS 6.5 with mapp View 6.5.
  • Feature development based on real usage
    • New features and enhancements will only be planned and prioritized
      • if there is visible real usage, and
      • if we can justify the effort based on the number of users.
  • Transparent communication
    • I prefer openness, so I share the situation as it is:
      • There is no guaranteed long-term dedicated team.
      • The continuation and growth of mapp Framework 6 depends heavily on you – the users.
