Unable to connect to socket on T30 HMI

I’m attempting to connect my 6PPT30.0702-20B HMI to Automation Studio 6 through ethernet cable connection. The HMI is powered, but it just says “Unable to connect to socket, retrying the connection”. I have an X20CP1685 along with I/O modules that I’m using with this setup. I’ve added the HMI to the system designer, and in the HMI’s configuration menu, I gave it an IP address in the same subnet the X20CP1685 and laptop’s ethernet adapter in addition to giving the HMI the same subnet mask. The HMI, X20CPU and the laptop are all connected together via an ethernet switch.

I also created a VC4 visualization and as far as I can tell I tied the visualization project to the HMI via the HMI’s configuration menu. I can’t seem to be able to send anything to the HMI from Automation Studio, I just get the message “Unable to connect to socket, retrying the connection”. From what I’ve seen, I may need to set up a VNC server as a sort of go between the CPU and the HMI, and I’ve tried that in the HMI’s configuration menu, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’m fairly new to this, any help on this would be appreciated, and ask whatever questions you need to get the full picture.

The 6PPT30.0702-20B should be connected to the CPU X20CP1685.

You cannot program the 6PPT30.0702-20B with Automation Studio.

The 6PPT30.0702-20B has it’s own dedicated firmware.

Hello,

You can imagine the T30 panel as a VNC Viewer. You don’t need to add the panel in System Designer in the Automation Studio at all.

I would configure VNC server on the ETH interface of the X20CP1685. Then, having a PC and X20 CPU in the same network, I’d try to connect to the PLC with some VNC client software from your PC. With that you know the VNC server works properly. Afterwards, you can just substitute the VNC client software by the T30 panel. Set Startup as VNC, configure a connection to the VNC server, and set the IP address of the panel. Check possibilities how to access T30 Service pages. Of course, the T30 must be in the same network as the X20 CPU.

is it your question answered? can you mark the reply that helped you the most?

I accessed the service page for the T30 and configured it the way you mentioned. I also configured the VNC server on the ETH interface of the CPU module and am now able to see my visualization on the HMI. Thank you very much for your help!
