User Spotlight: Marcus Mangel

Moderators play a very important role in our community. They work to ensure this space is welcoming and safe for everyone. Our team of moderators is constantly evolving, so let me introduce one of the newest member. I am excited to welcome to the team - Marcus Mangel!

What is your role?

I have been an Application Engineer with B&R in the US for 5 years. This involves a variety of activities including supporting the Sales team, supporting our customers, and turnkey application development.

What is your area of expertise?

I don’t focus on one area in particular and have worked with a variety of technologies throughout multiple industries. However if I had to choose, the technologies that I feel most experienced with (at the moment) are SuperTrak and the Mobile Automation portfolio.

What is one technical fact that you’d like to share with the community, which might not be well known?

During my first full week at B&R I attended an Advanced Basics training course along with some of our local customers. The trainer taught us some helpful keyboard shortcuts in Automation Studio and recommended binding them to mouse buttons. If you have a mouse with bindable buttons, this can be a game changer! I have the following bindings saved to various buttons:

  • Ctrl + F5: Build and Transfer
  • Ctrl + F6/Ctrl + Shift + F6: Tab navigation
  • Ctrl + Shift + S: Save All

What excites/motivates you about the B&R Community?

I was excited when the Community was created because it is a publicly searchable collection of information and guides. It’s so much easier to learn something new when someone who has already done it shares their experience. The Community will never be a replacement for hands-on training, but as time goes on, more and more questions will be answered which helps everyone learn.

What are your personal passions/hobbies?

I really enjoy traveling and exploring new places, whether that means a walk around my city or visiting a new country on vacation. Along with that, I’ve been dedicating time every day to keep up my language learning skills (specifically French and German). A lot of people also know me as someone who enjoys coffee. I like visiting coffee shops and bringing coffee beans home from trips (or to the office to share with my colleagues).
