C80 Hypervisor Boot Error

Hey everyone,

I have a 4PPC80 (AS 4.11.6.26 & AR B4.92) that I am attempting to load a program to, it’s being used as the main PLC. This program is running in the field, but their HMI was damaged so I am just sending them a replacement. My company is new to using C80s so this was my first attempt.

Initially driven by habit I used “create USB install drive”, and plugged it into the HMI. After booting, I made it to B&R “Waiting for Configuration” screen in boot mode. This probably would have been the right moment to open the boot manager, but I hadn’t read the help section on “updating/installing the C80 system” yet. Instead I assumed I used the wrong installer, and reburned the USB using “generate project installation package”. This had the same result, which is when I started digging into the help, where it says to use “create USB install drive”. After switching back, I was at the same point so I did another power cycle which opened a can of worms.

This sent me down a rabbit hole of Hypervisor, which I have never really dealt with before. I stumbled on Hypervisor Installation Guide: Windows (WIP), which lead me to download ADI and BR Hypervisor. There are a lot more steps to get them to actually work, however this possible fix isn’t sitting well with me. My coworker who originally programmed the screen had no BR Hypervisor paraphernalia at all, and it’s not something we typically use.

Long story short, am I on the right track?

Thanks,

Abby

Hi Abby,

C80 installation is quite easy; you just need to be patient. You do not need to install the ADI driver for C80. Instead, you have to create a USB stick using “Create USB install drive,” plug it into the C80, and restart the C80. The installation should start automatically, and if it hasn’t changed, the C80 will restart a couple of times,so be patient. From the screenshot, I assumed that you only installed the hypervisor itself, but the runtime was not installed. So, try the procedure again. Make sure that the C80 in the project is the same type you want to install to.

Hope this helps.

Jaroslav

Hi Jaroslav,

I started with a fresh C80 this morning. Instead of going the USB route I connected directly to it, assigned it the IP address, and was able to transfer.

I’m still not sure what’s wrong with the original screen, it’s acting like there’s no Linux image on it. But at least I can get my customer up and running!

On the original screen, there is an error message that the hypervisor during booting returned an error that ARIMG was not found. So I’m almost sure that Linux is there, but the hypervisor did not start it because of an error in loading AR. If you reinstall it, you will get it to run as well.
