Community Thoughts: Application Modules

They definitely exist, in that you can add them to a project. Does this just mean that support or bugfixes for them will be limited (or non-existant)?

My usage of them for a project was in AS4.12…

From AS 6 Help it seems they work; there is even a note regarding the necessary adjustment in the AS 4 prj:

@kovarj Could you please help us to clarify this point with R&D?
Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, Application modules as a feature of Automation Studio is still present in AS6. Could be that some technology packages has not been adapted yet. I will double check it.

Hi all,

Application Modules are of course still supported in ASW6, there have not been any discontinuations here and we will continue to support them.

I do not understand how such a claim could be made.

BR, Michael

So, to sum it up: Application modules are still supported in AS6, confirmed by R&D. I clarified @Niwal’s reply; his case is about TP mappServices. At the moment, mappServices are not ready for use as an application module for AS6. If this is a blocker for any of you, please report it officially using the support channel of your local B&R office. One notice from me, please do not use AI arguments unless you are 100% sure they are correct  Besides that, this has been a very interesting discussion so far. I liked it because it gave me a better overview of application modules. Thanks all.

Yep thanks for clarifying!

Thanks @kovarj @werner1m for your help!
It will be nice at this point if we have some notes in the AS Help regarding the limitation due to mapp Services (We have AS 6.5, not just 6.0 so this should be documented), more or less what we have for VC4 and ACP10.
We use mapp Service basically in all prjs…alarm handling, recipe handling…

Thanks

@werner1m Thanks GOD!

You can put also configuration to Logical View and do automatic generation of Configuration by script(hint-> reference file).

Yes, .HW scks. mappIO is only usable when you dont have mappMotion, but everybody is forced to have mappMotion…Hope the developres will change it.

The statement, that MpIO does not support mapp Motion is kind of not true.

In ACP10 it was possible, to directly change axes mappings with MpIO. This feature is currently not supported with mapp Motion / MpIO.

But it is completely well possible to use MpIO with mapp Motion. You just need to use it in combination with MC_BR_ProcessConfig to create / remap axes… Not completely part of this topic, so if you want to know more, we’d better start a separate discussion.

@patrick.tanner Good to know. Thanks for info. I will chcek, because in combination with app modules, this is exactly I want to have at my framework project.

Hi @bryan.olson, are you satisfied? Can we close the discussion? what is your summary you take from it
