Error message

Hi everyone-I have a PP65 display that runs a Laguna Smartshop2 CNC and when i start up machine and home it I get the following message on the Y1 & X. “Basis movements: Start movement with absolute target position. Target position exceeds negative SW limit.” Any idea what is causing this. Thanks in advance

Hi Steve. Each axis has defined sw limits and any new positioning command must be inside of this limit.

Imagine this:
neg limit: 100mm
pos limit: 500mm

your target position must met this condition:

neg limit < target position < pos limit

e.g.

If you abs movement target position is set e.g. 99mm, command will not be started and you will get error " Start movement with absolute target position. Target position exceeds negative SW limit "

usually neg and pos limit are configured based on physical limit of your axis, so very likely you set wrong target position for your absolute move.

Hi- Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I don’t think I changed any settings. Where would look in software to see if I had. My CNC table size if 4’ x 8’.

Hi Jaroslav- One other thing that might help. When I go to home the machine all the axis home correctly. I get the error when homing is done.

That is correct, without a homed axis you cannot start any movement.

Just a quick thought on what to check..

  • When exactly do you have this error?
  • Can you move your axis manually?
  • Can you see in the visualization the actual and set position, and what are the limits set for your axis in case of error?
  • You have a CNC machine, do you have this error when you start a CNC program?
  • Have you changed anything in the configuration?

Jaroslav

Steve, are you from Laguna Tools or a customer of Laguna? It’s going to change what you have access to in order to change/fix things.

Hi- I am a customer of Laguna tools. Their tech support is having trouble figuring out my problem. Thought I would reach out to the B&R community for help.

Hi- The error happens when I get to the end of homing the machine.

  • I can move the axis only when I clear the screen of errors.
  • the laguna tech saw a screen shot of my screen and all numbers are correct.
  • I can’t start a program until I get the machined homed…can’t go any further.
  • pretty sure I haven’t changed any config.

Has there been a battery change or compactflash card change?

there has been no battery change. The laguna tech is sending me a updated flash card. Do you think that will help?

..for me it looks like application issue. you have probably found some “corner state” of your axis. From B&R point of view is behavior correct, you can not set target position out of sw limits. So update from laguna tech can definitely help.

Yes. I think its definitely a machine software problem. I will receive flash card tomorrow and load it. Fingers crossed.:man_facepalming::+1:
