Hi BRCommunity
To support project migration from AS4 to AS6, a community-based AS4->AS6 migration script was first introduced in the past (link). This script analyzes an AS4 project and generates a report highlighting potential changes and issues. The script is very powerful and quite often used, especially for customers who would like to have migration in their own hands.
But there is also another group of customers, especially those with less complex projects, who would like to have a tool that will convert parts of the project which are possible to convert and will create a report for parts that cannot be converted.
That is the reason why a second tool was developed. So let’s get to know:
AS4 to AS6 Conversion Tool
A web-based tool for migrating B&R Automation Studio 4 (AS4) projects to Automation Studio 6 (AS6). It analyzes project files, identifies deprecated libraries and functions, and suggests replacements compatible with AS6.
Features
-
Structure Analysis – Parses folder structures to understand AS4 project layouts
-
Deprecation Scanning – Identifies obsolete libraries (e.g.,
MpCom,MpWebXs) and suggests AS6 alternatives -
Code Conversion – Automatically updates syntax for renamed functions or types
-
Report Generation – Exports a summary of changes and remaining issues
More info can be found in this post:
Use it, report bugs, or create feature requests.
What else can B&R offer for smooth migration from AS4 → AS6? Check the overview here:
We know that moving from AS4 to AS6 can be quite challenging for complex projects or for projects where legacy libraries were used, so feel free to use the Community to discuss your issues. Maybe someone has already faced a similar issue and can share their way of solution. Good ideas can be used for extension of our existing tools, no matter if we speak about migration script or more likely conversion tool.
