Is there functionality limitation in Automation Studio evaluation

So, for example, if I want to do a test project with just a light and switch, don’t I need to add an I/O module to my PLC? Can I directly use a port that is already integrated with the PLC? I use a x20cp1583 PLC

Hi,

sorry, maybe my answer was a bit unprecise:
Sure you’re right, to use external sensors and actors you need IOs also.
My recommendation was only meant to find out the reason, why your PLC does not start im RUN and why you can’t establish an online connection.

Best regards!

oh okay, I understand what you mean, maybe I need to try one by one manually, inserting the program package using a card reader, then if the program has been installed on the memory card, will the program automatically run when I insert the memory into the PLC or what?

Yes, this is what I meant: try to go step by step, first with commisisioning the system to ensure that the PLC is coming up like expected, then configure the needed hardware and software, and so on…
… doing it step by step will hopefully help to understand what’s happening when, and to find out what’s going wrong.

Best regards!

So after we insert the program into the memory card, then we plug it into the PLC and the PLC will run the program automatically when it is turned on?

Hi,

yes, if configurations, programs and so on are on CF card, the system will run this software automatically after boot.
If any error happens with programs, configurations or hardware, the system will boot in service or diagnosis mode, then the programs won’t run because those boot modes are used for error analysis only.

Best regards!

quite interesting, thank you for helping me, who is a layman and is just recognizing PLCs for the first time, especially this type of B&R, which physically I see almost resembles a tiny PC. Is there an example of a program project that can be used for first-time learning?

Hi,

for the first self-learning steps, for example the tutorials on the website are very useful:

But please be aware that you need a login on the website to use that content: so please contact your local B&R sales representative to get one. The representative can also give you more information about trainings that B&R offers.

Best regards!

I know it’s too late, but you and your topic reminded me today that I had a simple guide for a ‘Hello World’ program with B&R on my to-do list. So, use my guide as a recap of what you did today
