Make UserListDialog from the UserList widget customizable

Hi everyone,

I have a question for you :slightly_smiling_face:

Has anyone already encountered graphical issues (e.g., positioning, widget sizing) with the Create and Edit dialogs in the UserList widget?

A while back, I ran into a problem where the HMI layout was defined with very large pixel dimensions (something like 4000x2500, if I remember correctly). The UserList widget’s dialogs are hardcoded in mappView (size, position, internal widgets), which made them unusable—they were far too small, especially on touchscreens, where selecting anything was nearly impossible. In the end, I had to manually create my own custom UserList widget to work around this.

This got me thinking: Would it be possible to design a custom UserList widget that:

  • Preserves the existing dialogs (to avoid breaking current implementations),
  • Adds a parameter allowing users to specify a custom dialogId for the Create and Edit actions.

Of course, the widgets inside these dialogs would need predefined type and id attributes so the main widget can fetch the necessary data.

The goal is to give users full control over dialog customization. While respecting CRA and cybersecurity constraints as more and more people will start using mappUserX, I’m sure others will run into the same issue.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. If it turns out to be a common pain point, I’d be happy to develop (at least check if it’s possible ) this as an open-source widget for the community.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!
Florent
