Managing Multiple J1939 Devices with X20CS1070 CAN Card

Has anyone successfully used the X20CS1070 CAN card to communicate with multiple J1939 devices on the same bus?

We’re planning to connect several Horton Di+ controllers (manual attached) and I’m trying to figure out the best way to identify which device is sending information on the network. Is there a recommended method for distinguishing between devices, or is it possible to configure the node address for each controller?

Any tips, sample configurations, or general advice on managing multiple J1939 devices with the X20CS1070 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Dear Csongor,

yes, J1939 communication should also be feasible via the X20CS1070. However, you will need to configure the interface to either Stream or Cyclic Stream mode.

Given that this interface card has a relatively small buffer, I would recommend avoiding excessively rapid data exchange with the individual devices.

An example of J1939 communication can be found here.: mapp J1939: SAE J1939 network protocol
