Will AS 6 Support Discontinued Hardware

Are there any plans for AS 6 to support the discontinued hardware in the future (especially considering the recent CVE-2024-8603 vulnerability)?

Dear Franz,

You can find information about discontinuations in AS6 in the following link:

I already know there is a list of the discontinued HW/SW features in the automation help but there is no information on why or if support will be added in the future etc…

Hi,

as for the “why”: all the hardware removed from AS6 was already discontinued before (some for many years). Instead of supporting it indefinitely, AS6 consists of a big cleanup in that regard (it’s not simply missing the hardware files, there are many underlying mechanisms to support things around that that was simply there and had to be maintained just for some of that hardware) and there are no plans to bring any of that back as far as I am aware of.
If you need anything special or are affected by a CVE an can’t mitigate any issues via other means I recommend contacting our Cyber Security team to get to know more: Cyber Security | B&R Industrial Automation

Additionally: Please note that the mechanism of creating self-signed certificates during bootup is only intended for testing and not for real-world environments. In general, the use of self-signed certificates is not aligned with cyber security best practices due to their lack of trust verification. - from the CVE document.

Best regards
Michael
