Hello. We are upgrading our AS from v4.11 to v4.12.6 due to Windows 11 and now we are receiving a “No Certificate” status on several of our upgrades that worked fine on v4.11. Is this a bug of some sort with v4.12.6 and AS will install the upgrades successfully or is this something else? Thanks!
Hi Rob,
I’m not completely sure, but as I’ve seen in the revision history of AS 4.12.6 this could be caused by a hardening measure.
Here’s the information out of the revision history of AS4.12.6, and it refers to a Cyber Security Advisory also published on the homepage:
Right now, I’ve no personal experience if the “no certificate” status is only an information / warning or if it prevents the installation of the upgrade. Which upgrades are affected?
In general I would recommend to check if the’re updated upgrades available for the needed components, and to contact your local B&R support team for further information / clarification on that topic - and it would be great if you can give us an update here in the forum as soon as you got more info about, thanks in advance!
Best regards!
I think you are talking about the upgrades dialog ?
If yes then Automation Studio is “only” warning you that the used upgrade you would like to install is not signed by B&R. Typically this happens to older available upgrades (for example customer specific upgrades)
As mentioned this is only a warning and will not prevent AS from installing this upgrade.
Probably you should ask your responsible office for an up to date upgrade file with a valid certificate/signature
best regards !
@alexander.hefner I will be sure to post updates.
@oliver.doberer Correct, I am talking about the upgrades. My hang up is the files we are installing had no issues with v4.11 on Win 10 and now with v4.12 on Win 11 all of a sudden this issue occurs. I’m guessing because Win 11 is a more secure operating system then Win 10.
I have logged a ticket with B&R Support to get their take on this. Do you know where these files can be downloaded from? Thanks!
The reason is that AS4.12 is way more into Cyber security than AS4.11
AS4.12 will now tell you if an upgrade is not signed/certified. As mentioned this happens with upgrades which were created several years ago as B&R did not sign them back in this days.
Depending on the used upgrade it might even be that no “new” upgrade with a valid certificate is available.
In general ALL upgrades can be downloaded from our homepage - if a new one exists depends on the used hardware
Still you can use the upgrade also in AS4.12 - as mentioned this is only a warning and will not influence the install process or the working of the upgrade
Posting an update. The final solution we decided on was to move to v4.12 and leverage our local B&R support team to obtain updated copies of the upgrades we require for the project. Using the newer upgrade files has resolved the “no certificate” status. Thank you for everyone the responses!
