Automation Studio 4.12 Upgrades Silent Crash

I’m having a similar problem getting an older project running AS 4.12. The upgrades begin installing, but then silently crash.

When I check the Event Viewer, I see a .net error on the function BR.AS.Base.Guard.SecureProcessIsFileTrusted with a FileNotFoundException. So apparently it’s still trying to utilize a certificate file that is not present, and the upgrade never installs.

Hi John,

Are you installing a new version of Automation Studio (Service Pack) or are these other hardware/technology package upgrades?

Upgrades are now checked to see if they have a certificate before install, but some older upgrades do not yet have certificates. If this happens, a window will pop up asking if you want to run the install. This happens each time the upgrade installer starts an upgrade with no certificate. I recommend running Automation Studio as an administrator to make sure you’re getting these popups.

Additionally, you can try resetting the upgrade service to clear out any lingering errors. To do this:

  1. Close Automation Studio
  2. Go to the Windows Task Manager and open the Services page
  3. Select BrUpgrSrvAS412 and stop the service
  4. Clear out your C:\Temp folder
  5. Restart the BrUpgrSrvAS412 service
  6. Re-open Automation Studio and try the upgrades again

You can also try the upgrades one-by-one to see at what point it crashes.

Hi Marcus,

It’s a fresh install of Automation Studio on a new APC that will replace an existing APC. I’m attempting to get the PLC project operational on the new APC, and it’s requiring me to download a lot of the AR stuff in order for it to open appropriately.

When I attempt to do so, it shows there is no cert, and then I get the above behavior. I will try the troubleshooting steps listed above.

Thanks for your help.
