To control my home, I have a B&R X20CP1483-1 with 7 X20DI9371s and 18 X20DO4649s.
For several months, the controller has been displaying an error message and no longer works. I have to restart it. I don’t know why it’s doing this, and I no longer have an electrician to help me.
I’m therefore contacting you to see if you could help me.
Thank you in advance for your attention to my request.
OK lets start step by step, what error has been controller showing? Can you connect to controller and check the status using system diagnostic manager - SDM?
Hello, Thanks for your feedback. I can’t use system diagnostic manager SDM, i don’t know why. But i have access to the CPU via automation studio version 3.0.90.22 SP04. When i see the log error, i found the below error message :
Hi,
I can remember, many years ago there was an issue with the VNC server. I can’t remember the versions in detail, but since you’re using AS3.0.90 it points into that direction.
The issue was that the PLC gets a memory violation (page fault), if a VNC client uses a wrong password too often. And this is what I see in your screenshot: a protocol error because of wrong authentication.
One important question: is the PLC / the VNC server directly connected to internet, e.g. by port forwarding? Because if yes, probably some scripts try to connect to the VNC server, e.g. by brute force password attack.
In that case, I would strongly recommend to use VNC only in your internal network, and not to expose VNC for access from internet.
Hi Alxander,
Thanks for your feedback.
Indeed, I can attempt may plc with external connection on my VNC. I will try your suggestion to see if it changes something.
Do you know if there is another way that VNC to manage my PLC in or outside my house ?
Regards,
FRed
Hi Frederick, if Alexander is right, I think the easiest solution is to update your system. If you contact B&R support, they will tell you in which version of AR/VC the fix was provided.
in addition to what Jaroslav already mentioned,
independent of if it’s a PLC or any other device, a more secure way to manage devices inside your home network is using a router that provides a VPN access.
Connecting via VPN to your home network will allow you to access the network and all devices inside over a secure channel.
The’re different VPN protocols and routers possible, I personally use a Fritzbox with built-in Wireguard VPN support.
