I was trying to add the Sick MLG2 - Pro to the B&R Hardware catalog. Maybe I am doing this wrong or maybe I am missing something. Within the IO Link Download on their website, the zip contains images, pdfs and an XML file? What am I missing here.

With the installation of AS you should get an Application called IODD DTM Configurator.
Open this one and select “Import IODD…”
Select the *.xml from the unzipped download and the IODD should be added to your Hardware catalog.
Tried it via this download and it worked seamlessly for me:
