X67DS438A update 3rd party io link device

Hello,

is it possible to update the firmware of an io link device via automation studio for a 3rd party device e. g. festo, sick? IO Link Master: X67DS438

Thanks

Hi Maximilian,

I think that firmware updates can mean different things to different vendors, and generally the vendor of a device will have their own process for firmware updates. In the B&R world, firmware for B&R devices is usually pushed from the PLC during startup if a change is needed. However, that cannot be done automatically for third-party devices. I also don’t see any options in the IO Link Device Configuration window for doing this manually.

That being said, it is possible to import IODD files into Automation Studio via the Manage Third Party Devices dialog. Having an IODD file in the project allows the IO Link master to parameterize the connected device. You could also use the AsIOLink library for this purpose as long as you know what configuration options you want to read/write and how to find them. This might allow you to make the kinds of changes that you’d be looking for in a firmware update.

Hello,

Just for background interesst. Is this question related to the new requirements of the Machinery Regulation ?
I think firmware Updates are a topic there…
