About Affected material numbers and Successor material numbers

Is it necessary to change the old type and the new type which only differs by 1 letter/number in our program? for example, like the one in this picture

Hello,

It’s necessary to exchange them. This is based on the B&R ID code. If these codes are different, they aren’t interchangeable.

What about the wildcard modules? Those should work with -1 and -3, right?

I believe you’re right; I forgot this.

Now it depends on whether wildcard or specific modules are used in the project.

What if an older project (for example, with ACP10 3.14 or lower) has been created with specifically 8BVI0014HCD0.000-1 in HW configuration, would the similar 8BVI0014HCD0.000-3 model work instead? (as a drop-in replacement)

*-3 modules support for mapp Motion and ACP10/ARNC0 versions must always be checked. 8BVI0014HCD0.000-3 is supported from 5.04.0.

With P3 all 3 axis modules (independent off current) have the same type, but a different name.
The same goes for all 2 axis and 1 axis modules.
So if you want to know exactly which P3 it is, you will have to read the plugged name (AsIoDiag). This will also be available in GetHardwareInfo fub in mappmotion or in structure of acp10.

I think it is the same for acopos multi.

Okay, fine, but for example, if there is an example of a machine that has been installed with type 8BVI0014HCD0.000-1, can we replace it with 8BVI0014HCD0.000-3 when it breaks without changing the program?

B&R is aware of the situation that the replacement of this modules in the field is an topic.
B&R has an complete internal list of possible compatibilites (for all B&R colleagues contributing here i refer to SN 2025/26). The community is a puplic forum, sharing this document here is currently not possible.

There are various Scenarios where an exchange of the modules -1 → -3 will be not an issue and does not need an adaption of the plc Programm.
Especialy if the Machine is running newer ACP10 or MappMotion versions.
But there are scenarios were a modification of the plc Programm is needed. Especialy for older software versions.

In general i would advice you to contact your B&R local Support to request a compatibility statement for your special machine. Please provide Product-Number of the ACOPOS, ACP10- or MappMotion- , AutomationStudio- and Safety- Version used on the Machine Application. With this information B&R can advice you with an compatibility statement.

ACP10 or MappMotion versions
If they ACP10 or MappMotion versions use the old series, does that mean they still have to change the program?

Hello,
Yes for older Versions an adaption of the PLCprogram (upgrade to newer Version) is nessesary. Thats why the Ordernumber has been changed.
An identical Ordernumber means nothing to do for change. An -x change (-1 → -3) means that you have to check the scenario and there is a possibility for change requirements.
I have heard that for some of the modules there are still improvments planed to reduce the incompatibilities via firmware adaption in the future.

To be sure what old, new Versions means in this context. You have to ask the local Support.

Greetings
Michael
