Hi all,
I would like to share another case for Multi-core, this time with the HW C80.
- Does C80 support Multi-core? How can I know that?
Well theoretically this is an easy question to answer because on other posts we said to check on the website on the technical data:
but unfortunately I didn’t find this information on the website: 4PPC80.121E-10B | B&R Industrial Automation but as always no panic.
- I checked on the HW upgrade history (visible only when you sign in on our website) V6.0 HW Upgrade (4PPC80.121E-10B) | B&R Industrial Automation
good, told you no panic.
- Now many cores does C80 have? if more than one how many P-cores and E-cores it has?
no idea how many of them are P-cores or E-cores…again no panic we can check on the intel website Intel Atom® x5-E3940 Processor.
no data for E-cores…let’s ask Support.
Answer: “C80 has only p-cores”
- Configuration in AS 6.7, i just installed that.
It seems we can configure E-cores too, the E-cores field is not locked…interesting:
and even with E-cores configured on the dropdown I see 2 P-cores:
Why? Support help…
Answer: “This is hardcoded, let’s say, but you should see a logger entry (when doing/setting a things like you described). But I agree, there could be an improvement, therefore please contact the product management for possible request.”
Ok, let’s focus on P-cores, I set 3 P-cores:
but I only see 2 of them available for the selection:
Why? Support help…
Answer: “This seems as a bug, therefore, please create a new Case, because we would need to report it to our R&D colleagues.”
At the end I recommend this configuration for C80: 2 P-cores and 0 E-cores

Regarding the organization of the tasks below a feedback from a customer where on core#0 we only run motion internal tasks and on core#1 all User’ tasks:
