OPC UA compatibility with CPU X20CP3486?

Hi All,

I am trying to connect our CPU X20CP3486 to Wonderware Client via OPC UA.

  1. Is CPU X20CP3486 compatible with OPC UA or do i need to upgrade to X20CP3686?
  2. Is there a step by step guide on how to implement OPC UA on a CPU CPU X20CP3486 device?

Hi,

the X20CPx4xx devices are discontinued, as I remember only Automation Runtime versions up to 3.xy were supported.
OPC UA support in Automation Runtime started with versions >= 4.xy, so unfortunately no, OPC UA is not supported with X20CP3486, you need to upgrade to an actual device like X20CP3686.

About the configuration, you’ll find information in the online help:

Best regards.

Hi Alexander.

I have a line running on X20 CP 3586 and AS V 4.0.31.84.
Is there a How To on how to implement OPC UA?

Hi Oliver,

I personally only know the documentation out of the online help linked above in my last thread.

But because AS4.0 is quite old (the actual version is 4.12), I’m not sure if this documentation is still valid. What I know is, that for example many new features (and sure, alos some bugfixes) were added over the time after AS4.0, and also the OPC UA information model has changed from v1.0 to v2.0.
So, to get access to all features and possibilitites with OPC UA, I really recommend to upgrade to an actual version of Automation Studio and Automation Runtime, if possible.

What I’m additionally aware of is, that B&R also offers a OPC UA training, and therefore also a training manual is available (TM980). The TMs (training manuals) can be downloaded from the B&R’s website, but you need a website login to access those downloads.
If you don’t have such a login yet, you can reach out to your local B&R subsidiary / sales or support contact.

Hope that information helps a bit,
best regards!
