Power supply error intermittently in X20PS9400

We are getting an power supply error intermittently in X20PS9400, what could be reason? Let me know if further details required.

Hi,

I assume you have a double flash status on the red e LED of the PS module, right?
This happens when the bus supply voltage is <4.7 V or I/O supply voltage is <20.4 V.

Most often the reason is:

  • too much modules are driven by this power supply.
  • temporary overload of the power supply, for example if too many outputs are switched on at the same time.
  • short circuit on a output, that consumes too much power when activated.
  • the 24V input power supply is (a bit) too weak.

To get a better idea how to dig deeper into the issue, it would help us to know:

  • do you have access to the Automation Studio project or the SDM on the PLC? If yes, there should be 2 datapoints on the module called “StatusInput01” and “StatusInput02”, at least one of this datapoints is true when the issue happens: which one is it?
  • is it a new system / machine, or happened it the first time after a (long) runtime before without the error?
  • how many modules are connected to that PS?

Best regards!

From conversational help:

The X20PS9400 module has two status LEDs: a green LED and a red LED. The green LED indicates the module’s power status. When it is off, the module has no power. When it is flashing once, the module is in RESET mode. When it is blinking, the module is in PREOPERATIONAL mode. When it is on, the module is in RUN mode. The red LED indicates the module’s error status. When it is off, the module has no power or everything is fine. When it is flashing twice, it indicates an overload on the bus controller/X2X Link supply or too low I/O supply/input voltage for bus controller/X2X Link supply. When it is solid red and green is flashing once, it indicates invalid firmware.
