Swapping from Profibus to DeviceNet

Hello,

OEM of a machine has client switching from Profibus to DeviceNet. (I know, yuck)

Client can’t figure out to swap module, saying it doesn’t look to come apart.

Attached is a picture: bottom original Profibus and top new Device Net.

Any tips how the top fits into/replaces the bottom?

Thank you in advance.

The steps are:

  • Unscrew the cable - if this step already fails, maybe whoever assembled it overtightened the screws and now turning them counter-clockwise turns the screw’s counter parts. This step should not be completely necessary, as unlocking the module itself is independent of a cable attached or not, but it generally helps to be able to access the module freely (and makes sense in terms of getting rid of the module completely)
  • Pressing the orange button at the top of the module (see picture here) and while holding it pressed, pull the module towards you (straight towards the one ding it, otherwise it might bind) - a little wiggling could help

Additional tips:

  • Removing the TB of the power supply to the right of it maybe gets rid of a little bit of additional friction holding the module in place additionally
  • The whole PLC assembly could probably be unlocked from the rail, allowing easier access to grip it or generally fiddle around with it

Other than that the modules are mechanically compatible (software ofc isn’t)

The X20IF1061-1 is a PROFIBUS DP V1 master, the X20IF1053-1 is a DeviceNet slave (adapter) and is placed in the picture in an expandable powerlink bus controller X20BC1083.

If this configuration is correct, I assume that the X20BC1083 should be connected to the powerlink network. For this the X20BC1083 (and X20IF1053-1 + power supply) must be placed on a din-rail with a connection to a 24V power supply and powerlink cable connected to the powerlink network.

Otherwise contact the initiator of this switch.

P.S. also software changes are needed.
