Unable to do Offline Installation in Automation Studio 6

Hi,

I have APC 4100 that need to do offline installation to the Cfast Express card.

After compilation is complete, i didnt see my cfast card as an option to download into.

Just to test, I using Automation Studio 4.12 offline installation, and the card appear.

Hi,

I’ve no idea right now what the reason could be, but 2 questions maybe helping us to identify the cause:

  • is the Windows service “B&R Disk Image 6” installed and running?
    image

  • Is the CFexpress card displayed in Windows Explorer as drive? (so is the card partitioned and formatted)

    • if “no”, please use Windows Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) to partition and format the card and after that, please try again.

Yes the B&R disk image is running.
There is no CFexpress card partitioned at the Windows explorer. This is a new CFexpress card from APC 4100. As expected, there is no partitioned created.

Since AS 6 cannot detect my cfast card, i had to use Runtime Utility Centre to perform an Offline Installation.

Or we could use Disk Management to create the partitioned first.

But why AS 6 cannot detect if there is no partitioned created but AS 4 can detect?
Is there is some security measurement implemented at AS 6?

fyi, i tried with my customer PC, both our PC behave the same, we cannot do offline installation using AS 6 if there is no partitioned create yet for that card.

to be honest I don’t know the internal differences between the the Disk Images Service (4) and 6, I just know that Automation Studio 6 uses the “B&R Disk Image 6”, while Automation Studio 4 uses “B&R Disk Image”.
And it should be the same for Runtime Utility Center (PVI 4.12) and Runtime Utility Center (PVI 6) → like Automation Studio, also RUC uses the appropriate service belonging to the version numbers 4 or 6.

I don’t know why there are differences and what’s the reason behind: it could be security related, performance optimizations, to stay compatible with new windows versions, or just anything else.
Normally, B&R delivered storage cards (CF / CFast / CFexpress) preformatted in past, as I know. So maybe there was some mistake in delivery, or something has changed → I recommend to ask your local sales or support representative about that.
