Automation Studio problems caused by Admin by request

I installed Automation Studio using AdminByRequest to gather administrative rights for the installation.

During the installation the install process gets stuck about 30 times while updating the help. Clicking Retry or sometimes hitting a button to finish the command line in the background is necessary to finisih the installation process.
After installation i am not able to perform an offline installation, AS does not show me the connected card reader with the CFast card - i relate this issue to the installation as well.

Does anyone experienced the same issue or have any advice to solve the issue?

When you plug your reader with CFAST to your PC, can you see the CFAST card in windows file explorer?

I can’t say anything about you CFast problem, but we’re having the same issues wih the installation process and Admin by Request. Clicking away all errros seems to be fine, but it looks like you can’t be sure there are no side effects of this.

@stephan.stricker Mentioning you, as we already talked about this topic.

Hi Jörg,

What version of AS did you install? We have seen some issues with AdminByRequest with AS 6.3.3 and 6.3.4. But in our case, the setup did not get stuck. When we ran the setup a second time it fixed the issues. When you look at your services, do you see a service called “B&R Disk Image” ? Please also make sure that your IT does still allow removable media access.

Best regards

Stephan

Hi Jörg,

our Admin change from AdminbyRequest to lapsadmin. Because AdminByRequest is not working with B&R Software at this time. We have in our Company the same problems.

Just AI-generated add-on for those who (like me) lack knowledge about this terms.

AdminByRequest vs LAPS

  • AdminByRequest: Cloud tool for temporary admin rights; requires client installation; can cause software compatibility issues.
  • LAPS: Built into Windows; rotates local admin passwords

@stephan.stricker: i have these issues with AS6.3.2.2 but with AS 4.10.2.37 (and upgrade to 4.10.6.39_SP) too.

I have the Disk Image service, but it did not start automatically after installation, but i could start it manually.

@kovarj yes i see the CFAST card in windows file explorer

HI @Jorg_Hackinger, have you found usable solution for you, can you update us?

Closed due to inactivity. If you have not found a solution, please get in touch with the support of your local B&R office. It would be great if you could update us with any findings or solutions. Thanks, Jaroslav
