About +24V_OUT port of 8BVI module

This was my first time encountering B&R’s products. One of my equipment suppliers had a design like below figure.

They connected the +24V_OUT interfaces from multiple 8BVI modules together and connected them to the 24V output of a switching power supply.

May I ask if this design is feasible? Will there be any risks involved?

Hi there,

the naming “24V OUT” should indicate that it’s an OUTput and this this wiring does absolutely not make any sense in my opinion. While it might work to use those Outputs to provide the voltage for the Enable-Inputs (I am currently unsure if the Enable input disables the 24V Out, but I think it does not), adding an external supply to these does not make sense. Also it has to be evaluated if connecting two outputs together is allowed (load distribution etc), but that’s surely not what its intended for.

Your scheme basically has 5 supplies (24V Out 1 and 2 of two drives + the external supply), each working with or against each other - you might face issues.

→ Use the external supply, disconnect the “24V Out” ones from that schema is what it’s supposed to look like

Edit: Just had a look, the 24V Out1 and 2 share the same 24V line so connecting them is no problem. What remains is the unnecessary / invalid external supply

what is the intention ?

  • a ‘special’ safety concept ?
  • redundancy ?
  • anythin else ?

Hi Michael,

Thanks for you opinion.

The thing you mentioned was just what I concerned about.

But I’m not sure whether the hardware design of the module allows such a wiring design.

Based on your analysis, I think I have sufficient reasons to reject such a design and demand rectification.

Thanks very much.

Hi dear,

I’m not sure why the equipment manufacturer designed like this.

Maybe they had misunderstanding on how to use the “24V_out” port.

What I concerned about is that whether this design will affect the safety level of the safety structure, or the module stability.

Hi @Dylan , have you found solution for your issue? can you update us?
