-b&r-4ppc70.0702-20f008 boot mode: boot

Hi Walid,

Pressing the Reset button for longer than 2 seconds will put the controller into Diagnostic mode. In this state, I believe you should still be able to connect to it, but your programs won’t be running.

However, this shouldn’t erase anything, and you should be able to recover just by performing a warm restart or power cycling.

In order to make a connection, you’ll need to plug into the C70 via Ethernet (not USB). There are two Ethernet ports on the C70. One is typically used for Powerlink and the other for general Ethernet. Connect an Ethernet cable between your laptop and this Ethernet port, then try browsing in the Online->Settings window. You’ll also need to make sure your laptop’s Ethernet interface is on the same subnet to make a connection.

If you’re set on transferring the project you have, you can also perform a USB install as a last resort. This will completely erase whatever was on there before. To do this:

  1. Find a USB stick that you don’t mind erasing and format it as FAT32
  2. Go to Project->Project Installation->Offline Installation in Automation Studio and generate an installation package for a USB install
  3. Plug the USB stick into the C70
  4. Put the controller into BOOT mode by pressing the reset button for less than 2s, then more than 2s (see above)
  5. The install should automatically complete. After it is complete, you will be able to connect using the settings in whatever project you transferred, so make sure you set these the way you want them! I recommend activating SNMP for debugging in this case

One other note. Your original problem was that the C70 got itself stuck in Boot mode despite running for many years without modification. It’s possible this could be due to a hardware failure. I was hoping that we could get to the logs to confirm that, but if you’re having this much trouble connecting, I wonder if there’s something else going on. I wouldn’t be able to make that sort of conclusion here, but you may want to reach out to a local B&R contact to see if they’d be willing to support you in person or via a call.
