B&R communication with Siemens PLC

Good day,

I am trying to scope a project to establish communication to a Siemens S7-300 from a B&R PLC. I haven’t yet decided which B&R PLC I am going to use, but i want to find out

what would be the easiest way to achieve this and the most cost efficient.

Communication between the Siemens PLC and the B&R PLC is just to transfer over some counters and fault codes from the S7-300.

Kind regards

Hashmith Rajcoomar

Hello,

The best would be OPC UA in my view, but I don’t know if the Siemens S7-300 has OPC UA implemented by default.

Another possibility could be TCP communication—the AsTCP library.

Hi Pavel,

Thanks for that. Would it not be possible to establish communications via profinet or profibus?

Hello

Yes profinet or profibus is also possible. E.g. using a X20CPx6xx you can use a interface card (X20IFxxxx)

For Profinet:
X20IF10E1-1 => Profinet Master

X20IF10E3-1 => Profinet Slave

Or Profibus:

X20IF1061-1 => Profibus Master

X20IF1063-1 => Profibus Slave

Yes, but you need extra HW. See the overview.

Hi Michael,

Just want to confirm. So if I use a X20cCP1584 thats should be fine correct? WOuld i require any other modules or will this plug staright into the PLC.

Hello Hashmith

X20cCP1584 has one slot for interface modules. So if this slot is not already used, you can use it for one of the mentioned IF modules. Make sure to also use a coated IF module, like the PLC (X20cCP1584).

I just would like to mention that a simple data exchange can also be done without any additional interface.

If the data is not time critical or deterministic you can also use Ethernet port and send UDP or TCP frames (I suppose the Siemens PLC also offers a Ethernet interface)

Hi Guys,

One more question. I know the X20CP1584 is becoming obsolete.

Would the X20cCP1684 work? @Michael @pavel.vavra

Yes. The X20CPx6xx is a successor of the X20CPx5xx.

Hi Guys,

I am trying to create a project to test the above only difference is that i am using a X20CP0482.

I can’t seem to add the profibus slave module (X20IF10E3-1).

I have tried adding a X2X link with a BR9300 module, but the X20IF10E3-1 doesnt seem to be supported.

Hi @Hashmith_Rajcoomar ,
no problem on my pc:

Which bus module are you using? Just for test I selected X20BB63 in my case.
Attached my prj.
Bus receiver??? I guess you need bus transmitter…

Please download X20 system User’s manual

X20CP0482.zip (60.2 KB)

Thanks @valerio.manenti will give it a try
