Is this purchased license good enough for licensing the AS? As I saw that there is license that need to be insert into the USB dongle using PVI and technology guarding. I am not sure if I am having it with this purchased license.
Second question is after I have insert/ensure that the dongle is having the license in it, where should I connect this USB dongle? In my case, is it the Jump host that my AS is installed on that I should connect to? and any further steps that need to be taken after plugging the USB dongle?
I believe the license should already be present on the TG. If you’re logged in on the B&R website, you should see your licenses in the Service-Technology Guarding portal.
this license is a resell license → that means its intended to use for end-users (often sold by the machine manufacturer together with the machine) for diagnostic and update purposes.
Automation Studio can be licensed and used with it, yes, but just with an existing project.
The license is not intended to be used for development of new machines / new software → therefore, some functions (“create new project”, “online upgrade of software components”) are disabled together with that license type.
The Technology Guard (the “USB Dongle”) is included with that license.
The Technology Guard has to be connected to the device where Automation Studio in installed on (for example your notebook), and has to be connected the whole time while using Automation Studio.
As far as I know, the’re no additional steps needed → the drivers for the Technology Guard are installed by Automation Studio installation (at least when using default setup parameters). When Automation Studio is started, it checks for the license container on the Technology Guard, and works like defined by the license type.
So is this meaning that the if the Technology Guard is plugged to the machine that has the automation studio installed, I should be able to license the AS when I open it? Is it okay to proceed without a B&R account?
yes, for licensed operation of Automation Studio, it’s enough to just plug the Technology Guard, a B&R account is not needed for that - the account would only be needed if you have to install a license the first time to the USB device.
Honestly spoken, I personally haven’t had such a license in operation by my own, but I think this license is already preinstalled on the USB device → so in my opinion, no B&R account is needed.
