No Communication Between Acopos AC140 on A 1090 to profibus network

We have an Acopos 1090 with an AC140 that connects it to profibus network .
The AC140’s Run color is in orange (which means according to the manual SERVICE/DIAG/BOOT mode) and doesnt become ready so, it does not communicate with the PLC. It also shows a error of 14885 when connected to automation studio and we are unable to proceed. Can anyone help us please to cross this warning or troubleshoot it? What does this mode and this warning mean and How do we get it out of it?

Hello and welcome to the Community!

Well, there seems to be several problems overlapping here.
First, if the AC140 is in SERVICE/DIAG mode it would not perform whatever functions that it was intended to do. The reason why it seems unable to switch into the RUN mode would need to be investigated further.

Second, please tell us some more details about the connection environment around your AC140.61 module. You mentioned that it is connected to a S7-300 series PLC via PROFIBUS DP network. But the PROFIBUS DP is on interface IF3, not IF6 (Ethernet) which is shown in your screenshot of the log.
Is the Ethernet port (RJ45 connector on the bottom of the AC140.61) connected to other equipment? If so, what is that? For example, it could be a network router, gateway or bridge (perhaps with DHCP server functionality).
That might be relevant to the issue of why the AC140 device is in SERVICE mode. However, I do not currently see this as a critical problem for the PROFIBUS DP communications.

Third, can you check the PROFIBUS DP connection status from the S7 PLC side? Does the S7 CPU see the AC140 slave node as accessible, but maybe with some error code (or DP diagnostic message)?
Well, this is not a SIEMENS support forum, so I do not want to go into details of diagnosing PROFIBUS DP connectivity problems using the STEP7 software, etc.
But I suggest you to look at this problem from the point of view of the PROFIBUS Master (which is the S7 PLC) as well..

Please update this thread with additional details when you can…

Thanks and Best Regards,
AK

Hello Alexander and thank you for welcoming me and replying to my question!

*The ethernet port is not connected to anything.
*THe IF3 is not showing on the automation studio.

It is connected via profibus to a network to the Siemens PLC. the AC140 is not showing up on the siemens plc.

Hi,

I’m not a motion expert at all, but the first two messages in the logger are pointing to:

  • reset button was used - the default behavior for the reset button is a boot into SERV… I assume you already had a problem before using reset, so I don’t think it’s the root cause but it’s worth to mention - leaving SERV mode is possible be warm restart via Automation Studio, or power powering off the device.
  • the second entry is a interesting one: it says that the CS (= checksum) of a module seems to be invalid - this could be a reason why the PLC does not longer enters RUN mode - a checksum can’t be “repaired”, so the only possibility I know is to transfer the software again (you need to have the source code project and the suitable Automation Studio Version for this).
  • all other messages belonging to FBASE and IF6 are related to Ethernet online communication… I’m not 100% sure, but as you said Ethernet is not plugged, I assume that Ethernet is configured in the project as DHCP client, and since there’s no DHCP server available and no cable is plugged, I think this is a normal behavior.
  • I’m also wondering about the datetime stamp, it looks like the real time clock is not set - I think the AC140 battery is empty or missing (which could also be a reason why a module checksum is destroyed, if the module is stored inside the SRAM).

That’s all what I can read out from the logger.
Best regards!

Hello,

As Alexander Hefner (@alexander.hefner) has noted, your AC140 module seem to have a problem with the backup battery which is probably causing a number other problems.

George, can you get a good spare battery of Renata CR2477N type and replace the old one? After you replace the battery, please power-cycle the ACOPOS drive (DC 24V Power) and send us a new screenshot of the log. It would also be nice if you could set the real time clock to to some other date/time, not year 2003.

Depending on the contents of the log, I think, it could be helpful to do a Cold Restart of the AC140 module (instead of the Warm one) in order to clear its Retain memory and restore the checksum. That should help the AC140 CPU to switch to the RUN state.

Try that and let us know what you get

Thanks and Best Regards,
AK

Hello All,
I was able to change the battery and fix the time and restarted the ACOPOS 1090.
However, the same warnings showed up except for the one related to the CS .
Also, it does not allow me to perform a cold restart. I am unable to click on warm or cold restart.
Thank you greatly for your support.

Moreover,
in the physical view we are unable to see the if3 among the list …
as below screenshot. We do not know if this is normal or it is supposed to show or not.

It is worth to note that the first AC140 was 8AC140.61.2 but it was damaged (fail Buff. Internal( and was replaced with 8AC140.61.3 (Internal and External Buff are ok) however, I don’t believe that could cause an issue. [ the Hardware configuration for the 8AC14.61-3 was downloaded from B&R website]

Hi,

From the screenshot it looks like that the PLC is in boot mode (connection info in the lower right corner).
This is not the normal operation mode, in BOOT the user software isn’t loaded and executed, the system is only ready for a AR transfer in that mode → boot mode normally means, that the operating system wasn’t started from CF card but a minimized AR was booted from a internal memory.

Is the CF card inserted? And how was the CF installed after changing from -2 to -3 variant of the AC140, by online transfer or by offline install (writing the CF from Automation Studio by using a USB CF card reader)?

Best regards.

Hello Alexander,
The CF Card is inserted.
The transfer was done offline using a card reader by opening the software and press only the “Start.bat” file using runtime utility center.

These are the exact quote from the Krones specialist after sending us the program file:
You have to connect a cardreader with a CF-card. Then you open the software and press only the “Start.bat” file.

attached is a screenshot from the installation.

Is

What do you believe is the way forward to put it in normal operation mode?

Thank you for your help !

Hi,

can you please check the settings of the CAN node number switches on the AC140?
See here in the datasheet, chapter 6, to identify the CAN node number switches:

The settings 00 and FF of the CAN node number switches have special functions:
$00: In this switch position, the operating system can be programmed via the online interface. User Flash is only deleted
after the update begins.
$FF: Diagnostics mode.

Setting 00 means, the system will always come up to boot mode.
If set to 00, please change them to the setting that was used in the replaced device (for example x16 was 0, x1 was 1). After changing please power off the device, wait some seconds, power it on again and see if something changes.

Best regards.

Hello,
I was told the Can Node switches are put to 00 but will verify that shortly once im near the machine.
However, the Machine manufacturer support is telling us that the AC130.61-3 cannot be used instead of AC140.61.-2 . Do you believe it is true? According to comparisons they are the same.

Best Regards

Hi,

indeed, the AC140.61-2 and AC140.61-3 are different systems.
They look similar and have same interfaces and so on, but still have some difference in internal core components, and so they aren’t binary compatible, I’m sorry.
That means, if a software is build & compiled for AC140.61-2, and you only have the binaries, unfortunately you can’t use those binaries directly in the -3 version → binary compatibility is only given, if the complete order code is the same.

Best regards.

Hello Alexander,
I have ordered an AC140.61-2 as I believe the one we have is damaged. Once it arrives, i will redo the steps and keep you posted if it worked!
Thank you so much for your feedback, super super appreciated.
Best Regards
