What's in the box? - X20DI8371

Welcome back to another addition of “What’s in the Box?”

General Overview
The goal of these posts are to share photographs of unboxing B&R hardware to help spread the knowledge about B&R packaging for particular items. You may be asking “Why post this?” We have found at times that customers fear they might be missing something, or are unsure as to what certain items are when they open the “box” for the first time. Without prior knowledge on what all comes with the hardware when shipped, it can be a challenge without having a reference. That’s where the “What’s in the Box?” idea came to fruition. To share the experience, and knowledge on what are included in the boxes and descriptions/information about these items.

X20DI8371
Today is a special unboxing, as we were able to get our hands on an X20DI8371 within the classic B&R box design.

Like our other X20/X67 modules, a cutout on the side of the box is made to gain easy access to the serial bar, along with identifying the Part number and revision information of the module.

After removing the X20DI8371 from its box, You can find a tiny extruded area inside the box which holds the Health and safety paper that are included with all of B&R X20 modules.

While this section is dedicated to hold in place the additional health and safety paperwork, I discovered that it also creates a sort of brace to hold the module in place. The orange flap creates a barrier between the side wall of the box and the low half of the X20DI8371, preventing it from moving around. What really neat, is that by keeping the health and safety paper in place, it allows for the paper to be perfectly positioned to hold up the overhang of the X20 module, giving the box even more rigidity to prevent the module from moving around while in transit. The photo below provides an idea on how the internal items are placed within the box.

Below we can see the layout of everything included within the legacy box of the X20DI8371

Turns out, its very hard to balance an X20 module on its base  So enjoy this contemporary positioning of the module within the classic B&R box.

You can find more information on the X20DI8371, on the B&R website, or in the help explorer. You can find the links down below.

Conclusion
Hopefully this has brought some insight into how the X20DI8371 module was packaged by B&R. Maybe someone on our community might be able to do their own unboxing of the X20DI8371 module with the new box design B&R offers. Feel free to share some ideas/feedback to help improve future “What’s in the box?” postings.
