I am very new to the B&R community, and I seek tools to select upgrade hardware. We currently have an X20CP1585 controller and I have been asked to investigate what upgrades are possible. I believe this model is a “1 insert slot” Standard model so upgrading to a “3 insert slot” model is not possible due to physical restrictions. That being said, are there tools that can help me pick controllers with more options that can fit in the same physical space or smaller than the current model and still connect to the existing IO card array that we have? I am very new to this platform and trying to understand how these systems are built. Thank you in advance for any advice.
the current line of PLCs in that line that is physically compatible is the X20CPx67x, so in your case, 1 slot, makes it X20CP168x, so X20CP1684, X20CP1685, X20CP1686X - choose the one that fits your computational and memory needs
as far as i understood you need more Option-Card Slots in less space. I think this is a bit Difficult.
On this slide i have the overview of existing Sizes which are compatible to the X20-IO Mounting on the right side of the PLC.
The Compact Class is smaller but has less cumputational Powers, so its only an option if the X20CP1585 was not used to its full power.
The EM-Size only offers 1 Slot.
If you need the Option Interface for additional Fieldbus Communication it may be an option to place it after a X20BC1083 Extentable Buscoppler. Here you have up to 2 Option Slots placed behind a Powerlink Interface. They are reduced in their Communication Bandwith, but can offer an alternative.
Thank you for the quick response. Currently we have the X20CP1585 controller installed. The customer says they are having data collection issues and I was asked to investigate what PLC upgrades exist. I noticed that the X20CP1685 has OPC UA mentioned which seems in line with data collection functionality with the X201686X seemingly being the biggest option for that purpose. I don’t have room for a 3 insert option so those options are not available. I agree the Compact is not gaining anything and I was not sure of the Embedded option had anything beyond the X20CP1686X capability. Does the Embedded have OPC UA options as well?
