X90cp154.60-s1 problem

I wrote the first program for the x90cp154.60-s1, but it turned out the controller’s outputs are locked and won’t activate without a safety application. I created a basic safety program, but I can’t load it onto the controller; for some reason, SafeDesigner doesn’t detect the controller, even though Automation Studio itself connects fine. ChatGPT is just going in circles with its suggestions—I need human help…

SAFE S/E LED flashes once per second.

Hi @Vitaliy_Udovik ,
Welcome to our B&R Community,
I recommend the mapp Safety → Getting started pages on AS Help:

Plus please upload SystemDump, normally on the safety logger we should see helpful entries for troubleshooting.

Ciao

Is this it?

yup basically it says you didn’t transfer safety application

Yeah, for some reason SafeDesigner won’t connect to the controller. The settings seem correct—there’s a ping and the port is open—but there’s no connection…

Let me try to explain what I need, the steps I’m taking, and the results I’m getting.
I have an x90cp154.60-s1 controller. I’ve never seen one before or worked with B&R equipment, but writing the program itself turned out to be straightforward. The problem arose when actual devices were connected to the physical outputs: there were no signals at the outputs, even though the program showed the signals arriving, and forcing the outputs produced the expected signals.
I gathered from online information that because the controller model number ends in “…-s1,” a separate safety program is required; without it, the outputs remain blocked.
I added mappSafety and launched SafeDesigner via the context menu for the X90SL104.60-S1a module. I created a minimal program, compiled it, and saved the SafeCOMMISSIONING file.
That brings me to the current issue: SafeDesigner cannot detect the controller at all, so I can’t download the program to it. What could be the problem, and what should I look into?

You’ll have to use the Remote Control to download the project. Not the SafePLC window.

See also this post for hints on troubleshooting.

Thanks, that helped. But new questions have come up :

1 Module missing…

I see you use SafeCOMMISSIONING but the required data is missing on the target.
That’s why you get this logger entry:
-2147300832 inconsistent application data SL1: Info0=0x0002, Info1=0x00000002

Maybe you first try to get it running with a very simple project and then later add advanced features like SafeCOMMISSIONING.

In the grand scheme of things, I don’t actually need a safety application at the initial stage; I just need the controller outputs to activate. If that can be done without a safety application, that would be ideal.

Sadly this is not possible since the Outputs in a Safe X90 are controlled by an AND of the logical and Safety side of things:

The SafeCOMMISSIONING that Roman mentioned is disabled in the Safety Project in the properties of the X90.
I highly recommend going through all the steps in the getting started for mappSafety as this describes how to disable SafeCOMMISSIONING and should result in a simple safety project running on your plc.

I hope this helps

I just want to add a couple of X90 specific tips that may help:

  • As you know, you need a safety application running to use any outputs on an X90 safety controller. This safety application must be in SafeRUN mode (running without errors)
  • There is an Enable pin that has to be given 24V before any outputs will turn on, even after the safety application is running

Also, here are a couple of errors that might pop up in the Logger and how you can resolve them:

  • StatusDigitalOutput error - If this turns on, the controller thinks that the output doesn’t have a path to ground (e.g., because of a broken or disconnected wire). This error will prevent the safety controller from going into RUN mode
  • Channel configuration mismatch - A channel (or multiple channels) are configured differently in Automation Studio than in SafeDESIGNER. Since you can configure I/O channels to be either safe or non-safe, any channels you’ve configured as safe in Automation Studio must also be configured in SafeDESIGNER and any non-safe channels must not be used in SafeDESIGNER

The Approval signal (OutputEnable) is connected—this is visible in the screenshot above…

I created a minimal SafeDesigner program;
the program compiled without errors;
I performed the SafeCOMMISSIONING procedure;
I connected via Remote Control;
and I downloaded the program to the controller.
However, the status indicators do not match what is described in the Help documentation. The controller does not detect the module, and that is where things have stalled.
It is possible I am doing something wrong, but I cannot see where the error lies.

Does your controller have any safe option boards (e.g., X90RO440.04-S1)? Those may need to be added to the project as well.

Also, can you please share another system dump now that you have a safety program that you’re trying to commission? There are usually errors in the safety logger that can help explain what the problem is there.

As I understand it, the x90sl104.60-s1a module is part of the x90cp154.60-s1 controller, there are no other modules. (However, I haven’t disassembled the controller, so I can’t say for sure.)

I don’t have access to the controller anymore today. I’ll upload the dump tomorrow.

Has anyone worked with the x90cp154.60-s1 controller?

Maybe someone has a test program—just to verify that the controller itself is functional…
