AS6.5 install - Now issue with DTM Catalog Update in AS4.7 & 4.12

Hi All,

I installed AS6.5 and the latest service pack today as i plan to migrate our AS4.7 project to 6.

Install of AS6 went fine no issues however when i try to open my project in AS4.7 now or also AS4.12 it automatically starts a DTM Catalog Update. This starts and updates several packages until it comes to the

GSDDTM.DTMDev.1 package where it just gets stuck:

I already waited for ~30min but no change. Also i tried to uninstall and re-install
image

Even with different versions, the newest and now 1.7.0.1 but its the same result…

Any ideas are much appreciated. I read that the only solution in other cases with DTM issues was to basically re-install Automation Studio which i obviously only see as my last resort…

Thank you

Hi Robert, in such cases, the first step is to to do a full uninstall of DTM (including all related software) and then reinstall the newest version as Administrator. Here are the steps to do this:

  1. Uninstall the B&R DTM as well as all DTM/Hilscher related software, from “Add or Remove Programs”.

    1. Start by uninstalling “B+R DTM”

    2. After that has completed, check to see if there are any other “DTM” or “Hilscher” related software still there, and uninstall them if they are.

  2. Download the latest DTM version (2.1.1.2) from the B&R website ( B&R DTM | B&R Industrial Automation ) and install it as an explicit Administrator (right-click on the “BRDTM.exe” installer > Run as Administrator).

  3. After the installation completes, open Automation Studio as an explicit Administrator (right-click on AS > Run as Administrator). This is to ensure that AS has sufficient rights to update the DTM catalog.

  4. Once AS loads up, import any necessary DTM devices in “Tools > Manage 3rd-Party Devices”

Please let us know if the issue persists after properly reinstalling the B&R DTM.

Hi @Robert_Kraiger ,
In case you still have the issue after all steps described by Rafael, I ask you to follow the sequence posted by Oliver (it solved my issue few weeks ago):

Ciao
Valerio

Hey Thank you guys!

I did follow basically both but more the instructions from @valerio.manenti and now it works!

So it needed a full re-install and deleting all the Hilscher stuff…

I’m still having one more issue now but that may be related to the device itself however i will come back to this thread if i cannot figure it out soon.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I have tried twice (on different PC’s) to install AS 6.5 alongside AS 4.7, but each time it breaks the other installation.

AS 4.7 and AS4.12 on the same PC works for me.
AS4.12 and AS6.5 on the same PC works for me.

However, I have never managed to get AS 4.7 and AS 6.5 running properly on the same system. It seems to be related to a third-party FDT/DTM version issue.

I would appreciate any hints or suggestions on how to get this working.

Hi @lukas ,
you know not all AS versions support all Operating Systems

Supported operating systems
Have you tried to use virtual machine?
thanks

Hi Valerio,

yes, I’m aware of the OS version limitations. However, up to now we’ve been working with AS4.7 on both Windows 10 and Windows 11 without issues.

Ideally, we would have both versions installed natively on the same PC, as we still need to support a large installed base.

If I don’t find an alternative solution, We will set up a virtual machine for all users once the migration to AS6 is complete. In the meantime, I’m working with two PCs: one for daily support and one dedicated to the AS6 migration

thanks and greets,

Lukas
