B&R CP 260 3CP260.60-1 2005 Backup and restore

I’m Emanuele Nazzarro from Renaissance Group, Italy. We have some Muller Martini customers with old CP260 B&R CPU units.
He has the following configuration:
B&R PS 465 3PS465.9 2005 power supply module 1 unit
B&R CP 260 3CP260.60-1 2005 CPU 1 unit
B&R IF 671 3IF671.9 2005 interface module 2 units
B&R DM455 3DM455.60-2 2005 digital mixed module 2 units
B&R DI477 3DI477.6 2005 digital input module 3 units
B&R DM476 3DM476.6 2005 digital mixed module 1 units
B&R DO479 3DO479.6 2005 digital output module 3 units
The customer has one CPU as backup and he asks us if we can reprogram it.
We ask you how can we work.
We also can do this job in our lab with your support.
Please give us the best solution to propose to our customer.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Emanuele

@Renaissance ,
There are two ways we can go about this.

  1. If you have the original project that is used on the 3CP260.60-1, then you should be able to open Automation Studio x.x and proceed with transferring the project onto the backup 3CP260.60-1. In case you are not sure what version of Automation Studio you need, I’ recently did a post that may be able to help determine this.

How to Identify Automation Studio versions used in a project - Share Info & Ideas / How-To & Wikis - B&R Community

Once determined, you can go to the B&R website, Downloads | B&R Industrial Automation, and download the desired version. If you find that the Automation Studio version is not available on the B&R website, then go ahead and contact your B&R local support and they can assist with providing you with the required Automation Studio version. If you have any questions on the transfer process feel free to follow up, or check out the help explorer, that’s installed alongside Automation Studio 4.x and older.

  1. Most of B&Rs 2003/2005 hardware were programed using SG3 (currently on SG4). In this case, B&R does offering engineering services where they can perform the backup/restore procedure from one SG3 system to another. If this sounds like something you would prefer, contact your local B&R service/support about the inquiry and they can assist with next steps.

@HitchcockN
Thank you for your explanation.

Unfortunately, we do not have the original Automation Studio project of the machine.

The original CPU is still running on the machine and the customer has one identical 3CP260.60-1 CPU as backup spare unit.

We would like to understand the best possible way to:

  • create a full backup/image from the running CPU;

  • restore/clone it to the spare CPU;

  • keep a disaster recovery backup for the future.

We are available to perform the activity in our laboratory with remote support if required.

Could you please advise:

  • if this backup/restore procedure is possible on this SG3 system;

  • which hardware/software/tools are required;

  • if B&R still provides support/services for CP260 systems;

  • if it is possible to extract only the runtime or also the application.

Additionally, we would like to ask:

  • if someone from B&R can directly support us for this activity;

  • or if there is a specific contact/person/team experienced with legacy CP260 / SG3 systems that we can contact.

Any recommendation or experience with similar 2005 CP260 systems would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your support.

@Renaissance,
Since you are located in Italy, we would advise you reach out to support.br@it.abb.com as they would be best suited to help with this operation process.
