Realtime video streaming at SG4

Hello,

Is it possible to display video from webcam in real time using MEDIA control in SG4 visualisation with following HW and SW
PC PLC: 5PPC2100_BY01_000
display: 5AP923.1505-00
AR: E4.26 (Windows)
Visual components SG4 (VC4): V4.26.8

In AS help I found out that all video formats implemented in Windows Media Player 11 are supported, but it seems there is no realtime streaming

Hi Matjaz,

I don’t think there is any B&R official solution, but there have been some posts on the Community in the past that relate to doing this with third-party tools:

How do I get a video stream from my camera through mappview? - Ask Questions - B&R Community

The Webcam plays the video stream in real time through the Mappview - Share Info & Ideas - B&R Community

RTSP to mappView Guide - Share Info & Ideas - B&R Community

Note that all of these are using mappView, not Visual Components. I can’t say for certain, but I doubt that there is a way to do this with VC4 because it seems you need a web browser to display the real-time video stream.

Hello,

There is a special mode for VC4 on Windows called Windows Terminal Mode
In this mode i think the VC4 could use the Windows Browser in a web Widget.

But this is quite old technology and should only considered if mappView is not a possibility.
Mapp View has a VNC-Viewer Widget to implement the VC4 visu. So maybe it is possible to only change parts of the UI.

Personaly i only had one RealTime Video Streaming application, and there we had a Windows-Programm doing the stream and opening mappView in a Browser-Window next to each other.

Greetings
Michael

Thanks for replies. I have studied help file regarding this topic, it seems real time streaming can be done in VC4 as you said. Streaming is based on Windows Media Player codecs. If WMP supports video, then it should work. Here I expect problems because machine works on WIndows 7 and there is not much support for old windows versions..

I rather ask community before digging into the problems :). And changing visualization to mappView would be too complicated.
