Voltage drop on X20 CP 1584 capacitors

,

Hello everyone!
The equipment is equipped with an x20 cp 1584 controller.
One day, it simply stopped working.
The R/E, RDY/F, and S/E LEDs are not displayed.
The voltage is 5.2V, but there is 3.3V on the capacitors.
If anyone has encountered this problem, I would appreciate any information.

Hi there,

The X20CP1584 requires a voltage of 24V (-15% / + 20%), so at LEAST 20.4V. And there are no accessible capacitors on it, unsure what you did measure.

I’m supplying voltage from a 24-volt power supply.
I disassembled the controller and measured the internal power supply on the low-voltage capacitors.
My guess is there’s something wrong with the firmware.
If I insert a memory card, a network cable, or the battery, the indicator lights up.
My guess is the controller has lost its internal operating system.
I have a new controller. Maybe it’s possible to download the firmware from the new controller and load it onto the old one.
Thanks for the reply.

Hello,

If you have opened the housing of the Device (PLC) the Warranty is lost.
B&R does not support any kind of self Repair of the Devices.
We do not provide any internal circuit Diagrams or information about internal Diagnostic Interfaces.

Feel free to continue the discussion in the community.

If you have a new PLC you can move the CF-Card from the old PLC to the new one. In this way you have moved the Program Storage to the new Device. There could be some persistent data on the old PLC this data is gone if the device is defective.

Greetings
Michael

Thank you very much for your reply. The equipment is already working, but I would like to repair the faulty PLC. Maybe someone has repair experience and can help. The warranty on this device has already expired.

Usually, PLCs control machines/automation that cost a lot of money. I would not repair a PLC by myself and then rely on it. The best way is to send it to the repair department, to be honest.

A X20CP1584 doesn’t have any internal operating system nor internal storage (just SRAM and DRAM). That PLC depends on its operating system being written onto the CompactFlash card by a PC.

Hello, the CF flash card works perfectly, when I insert it into the new controller everything loads (I noticed that the CF card is read first: the LED lights up in different colors, in the non-working controller the CF card LED only lights up green).
In the working controller, the USB port is also read when I connect a flash with an indicator.
Maybe the problem is in this board, it connects separately to the main board.

Hello Gleb,

I would like to clearly point out the following regarding the opened PLC:

  • With opening the PLC the warranty has voided.

  • The CE/UL conformity only applies to the original condition as delivered by B&R. After opening the housing, CE is no longer valid.

  • In case of failure, especially if damage, fire, or injury occurs, this may have serious consequences regarding insurance coverage and liability.

I would strongly recommend to send the PLC to B&R Repair and let the experts repair it.

Gleb, the X20CP1584 is still in it’s repair phase. I concur with the above to try to get it repaired by the experts.
